Over the years I have received similar questions and wanted to put them all in one spot. If after reading through this you still have other inquiries, please send me an email and I would be happy to answer as best as I can.
Can you make something custom?
Yes, absolutely, that is what I specialize in! You can either select a current product for sale to customize (if this is an option for that product) or email me to create something completely unique out of wood or leather. I can provide a quote once I know all the details.
How long does it take for custom work?
It completely depends on the order. Once I am emailed with all details I can determine the estimated time frame. Please include in the original email if there is a specific date you require it by.
(*Please note, as with the nature of custom work, orders will not commence until full payment is made. This may affect the time to complete the order.)
Is your work handmade?
Depending on the products, I make some completely from square 1 or I use upcycled products.
Certain wood items such as wood jewelry, ornaments, magnets, some cutting boards or signs I will cut the wood myself, sand and prep. Trinket boxes, spoons, rolling pins and some cutting boards I will thrift find or purchase from stores and sand and prep.
For Leather items, I will buy veg tanned leather. I will create my own templates, cut the leather out, burn onto it, stain it, hand stitch it and add hardware as required. I will also upcycle ready stained leather and make certain jewelry with it. (Upcycled leather cannot be burned onto for safety reasons)
Is your work really hand burned?
Yes, all burning is done completely by hand with my little burner. I do not use any kind of CNC or laser machines.
How do you burn on images?
I will either find images that I want to use or if it's a custom order for someone I will get a copy of the image, etc. they want to use. I will do a very faint outline transfer onto my material. from there i will put the picture beside me and look back and forth texturing and shading to make the image exact as possible. Alot of the scenery stuff I will do strictly freehand.
Do you do commemorative pieces?
Yes! I specialize in doing portraits and memorial pieces of people and pets. I also do buildings, machinery and objects. I love to be able to help create something so unique and personal for my customers.
How do I care for my wood and leather items?
Depending on the use for each order it may vary.
Wood wall hangings/sign orders:
If I am made aware it is for outdoors, I will stain with a clear outdoor protective stain. Portraits and wall hangings for indoors will get a clear protective stain. All other indoor wood items will be just left nature just the burning. Just dust as needed.
Cutting boards/Charcuterie boards/spoons:
Items exposed to elements such as cutting boards will be sealed with mineral oil and a food grade protective stain. Only ever hand wash. Do not soak in water. Do not put in the dishwasher. Over time if you notice them drying out, you can recoat with mineral oil and/or beeswax.
Leather items:
Items that are going to be exposed to outdoor elements will get a protective sealant, such as belts, bags, wallets. coasters. This does not make them completely waterproof. Leather when wet can still darken, soften and stretch a little over time.
